The objective of Christian spiritual direction is to assist individuals in developing an increased awareness of God's constant presence, cultivating a deeper personal relationship with Jesus, and being mindful of the workings of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The Holy Spirit is in fact the real Director.
The spiritual director listens to the directee's story and helps them discern God's presence and action in their life. The director listens with the ear of the heart and helps the directee to listen to God’s voice in their life.
The spiritual director provides guidance to the directee using Scripture and Christian Tradition. The spiritual director does not tell the directee what to do. Rather, the director helps the directee to discern God’s will and to make choices that are in harmony with God’s will.
A good spiritual director is a person of prayer with a deep spiritual life. The spiritual director will pray with you during your session and continue interceeding on your behalf in their daily prayers.
We offer Catholic spiritual direction via online video chat, as well as spiritual training sessions in the form of one-on-one supervision or parish/group-level seminars. Our books, multimedia, and other publications are designed to promote and cultivate hearts for discernment while providing understanding of ourselves and others and God’s transformational process within us. Through our training sessions, participants will deepen their own spiritual lives while learning how to companion others on their spiritual journeys. The program emphasizes the importance of prayer, discernment, and active listening in spiritual direction, and provides opportunities for participants to practice these skills through peer supervision and guided exercises.
